Share YOUR ART on our Toronto Decomp Art Wall!  As some may know, we love art both on the playa and off.  This year we are putting up an art wall containing photos and information pertaining to art pieces that have been to the playa or other burner inspired events.  We will also be sharing photos of art created by burners who have been to the playa then created art at other non-burner events.

So if you have created an art piece for the playa, other decomps, MooseMan or other burner inspired events, we will print up to three photos of your art and post the related information with the hopes of inspiring others to experiment and/or participate in artistic endeavors.

Important Info about submitting and sharing YOUR ART on the wall:

• If you have more than one art piece you would like to share, please submit one form for each piece
• To ensure we are not up until 3AM printing the night before decomp, please send us your information no later than 10PM Thursday, February 14. Any shared images and information after this time is at the discretion of the printing process and not guaranteed to make it onto the wall.

“Icedrops” features a series of large suspended sculptures that instil a clean opaque architectural beauty during the day, and become bioluminescent light-art during the night.  Participants are encouraged to explore the ice drop environment and interact with the drops and sounds.

SubZeroArts assisted with the light design for the sculptures and provided a soundtrack taken from their installation “LightSoundPlay!“, which they presented at Club Saw in September 2012 as part of Nuit Blanche Ottawa.

SODI Designs provided interactive arts with the fantastic white metal cube design and the internal metal ice drop frames.

We’re very excited to be able to collaborate on “Icedrops” with SubZeroArts and SODI Designs at Winterlude 2013, and we’re thrilled to be able to share this new work with all of our friends in Ottawa!

interactive arts – the artist collective who brought you The Heart Machine for Nuit Blanche 2011 – is excited to share with you a new public art piece on the Humber Pedestrian Bridge for two months this summer. This is the first art project ever approved for mounting on the award winning Humber Pedestrian Bridge you are now standing on.Inspired by the bridge and the surrounding waterfront, this project is part of a unique initiative to bring locally created large scale public art to the city of Toronto. The sculpture is created by local volunteer artists along with interactive arts as a gift to our city. All we ask is if you like it you please donate online towards the cost of materials.

What Are They?

We are not supposed to know what they are!  Think of them as a Rorschach ink blot test for your imagination.

This sculpture is here to remind us to observe and question. The world holds much more than what we are currently aware of; allowing for phenomena we have not yet imagined. We are reminded of this every time we hear of new discoveries in our oceans, forests, caves, and space explorations.

The creatures also represent yin and yang opposites. During they day they are brightly colored opaque creatures. At night they become translucent and bioluminescent with 1,200 LED lights. The once brightly colored accents now become dark shadows in a pool of light.

Buckminster Fuller, the Bridge, and this Art Piece

Inspired by the bridge and the surrounding waterfront, this project is part of a unique initiative to bring large scale art, created by a shared community effort, to the city of Toronto. The sculpture is a grassroots effort, being created by volunteer artists along with interactive arts as a gift to our city.

Overnight, two 18 foot long dancing creatures will appear on the Humber Bridge suspended 20 feet above the pedestrian walkway.  The creatures will have a glass like appearance and at night they will seem to communicate with each other and their surroundings using bio-luminescence.

The City of Toronto staff and local councillors Mark Grimes and Sarah Doucette have paved the way to making such a large scale people driven project happen.  Now we need your help!

We are excited to move to our new workspace this Saturday and begin working on the tentacles that will be attached to each creature.

How do you make a sculpture of this size for less than $60,000? You get very creative with your processes and materials. We save thousands of dollars in standard vacuum molding costs by creating our mold out of a wood core, 1″ chicken wire, and wrapping it like crazy with bubble wrap and packing tape. The bubble wrap and packing tape ensure the fibreglass does not stick to the wire and wood frame. All that will be left when we are complete is the hollow fibreglass sculpture. We have chosen fibreglass as our medium as the sculpture is intended to look like coloured blown glass.

This is the kind of creative problem solving that provides us with excellent brain callisthenics!

We will keep adding photos of our build as we progress.  You can see us working Wednesday nights and Saturdays/Sundays down on the waterfront between Windemere Rd. and Ellis Ave.

We have started to build the sculpture and are using our own funds to get the ball rolling.  Most of us have full time day jobs just like you and do this out of our love of creating public art.  We will continue to accept donations until we have reached our fundraising goals up to and including the time that the sculpture is mounted over the bridge.  Visit the Indiegogo Donation Page Here!

The truth about most of our photos and videos is that we rely on you our friends, supporters, and participants. We get so wrapped up in interacting with our art and participants that we rarely remember to take photos.  Thank you to everyone online for posting and sharing.
